A fitted sheet needs the right wall depth for your mattress, particularly if you use a topper, since a sheet cut for a standard mattress will pull at the corners on a deeper one. A flat sheet works as a temperature regulator, letting you use the same quilt across more of the year and keeping the quilt cover cleaner between washes.
